Gutter/Downspout/Grading

● Gutter

Guiding rain and storm water off the roof and away from the foundation of the house—
is essential to the home’s structural well being.
That is, when the gutter is not kept clean and free from debris,
pounding water along the foundation line erodes the soil and can seep down along the foundation,
increasing the risk of basement leaks and structural instability.

● Downspout

Gutter systems have a slight downward pitch toward the corners of the home,
encouraging rainwater or snowmelt to flow “downhill” through the gutters and into the downspouts.
A downspout is a pipe that runs vertically along the side of the home. …
This allows the water flow away from the home as it exits the pipe.

● (Natural) Grading

Positive earth slop of earth surrounding a house in order to move water away from home.
The first rule of grading is that the ground should slope away from your house
in all directions dropping at least two or three inches every ten feet.
The maximum slope in a lawn should be twelve inches for every four feet.
