Rising Bond Yields Surprise Street

미 국채 반등에 시장 다소 놀람

WSJ   3/27/24

  • The Federal Reserve keeps promising interest-rate cuts. Treasury yields, a key driver of mortgage rates and other borrowing costs, keep rising anyway.  As of Tuesday, the yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note was 4.233%, according to Tradeweb, up from 3.860% at the end of last year. As a result, the average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage has also ticked higher, as has the cost of borrowing in the corporate-bond market.
  • The Federal Reserve could, of course, eventually lower interest rates back to prepandemic levels below 2.5%.  But that is unlikely to happen over the next six months, Payden & Rygel’s Cleveland said, leaving investors to ponder a range of scenarios, including one in which the Fed hardly cuts interest rates in the coming years.

Latino Launch U.S. Businesses at a Torrid Pace

라틴계, 뜨고운  속도로 신사업 확장

WSJ   3/27/24

  • Latin American immigrants are starting businesses at more than twice the rate of the U.S. population as a whole.
  • The jump in Latino entrepreneurship has driven up the overall share of new businesses owned by immigrants, who accounted for 36% of launches last year compared with 25% in 2019, according to a new analysis of Census Bureau data. New-business creation by white and native-born Americans has slowed in the past two years, following a broad surge early in the pandemic.
  • Hispanic startups also tend to be smaller, the study found, with 46% reporting more than $100,000 in annual revenue compared with 62% of white-owned firms, according to the analysis, which looked at firms in operation for five years or less.
